Congrats to Donie

Everyone within Ballinrobe GAA Club sends on their best wishes to our own Donal Vaughan, whom collected his 5th Connacht Medal after yesterdays comprehensive victory over Sligo. Donal capped a fine running display to finish the day with 2 points. Along with being an integral part of our club, Donal and his family are also club sponsors and have launched their new website recently, more can be seen here — www.vaughanshoes.ie. We are all now looking forward to a long summer in Croke Park cheering on Donal and the Mayo Squad, with the Quarter Finals coming up in 3 weeks time.

U10s enjoy clash with @mayogaelsgaa

From Declan O’Loughlin, chairperson, Robe Rockets, about our U10 game against Mayo Gaels last evening: “We had 22 players who turned out and their skill levels are improving every month. It was great game considering most of our players had already played football for at least 5 hours earlier that day in Cul Camp.” You can’t beat youth. Pix HERE

Senior team manager Norman O’Brien does guest session with ladies team

Norman O’Brien, who manages the senior men’s team in our club, this week did a guest training session with our young ladies footballers. We are very grateful to Norman for taking the time to train the girls and for teaching the girls – and the coaches – so much in just one hour. Mary Langan took the pictures below during the session. You can view a video HERE

U16 lose narrowly to Ballaghaderreen

By Billy Horan, Club PRO Ballaghaderreen pipped visiting Ballinrobe by two points – 2-12 to 2-10 – in the opening round of the JJ Burke Renault Mayo U16 D football championship, section two, last week. The home side was in front by 1-6 to 0-4 at half-time, but Ballinrobe made more of an impact after play resumed. Goals by Ross Philbin and Evan O’Brien helped to fashion an advantage of 2-10 to 1-9 by the 45th minute. Ballaghaderreen, however, responded resolutely to the challenge and the necessary scores emerged in an exciting finish to claim victory. Figuring with distinction for Ballinrobe were Evan O’Brien, Padraig Og Horan, Christopher Vahey, Kieran Finnerty, Evan Reaney, Evan Gannon and Ross Philbin. Ballinrobe scorers: E O’Brien (1-4), P Og Horan (0-4); R Philbin (1-0), K Finnerty (0-1), O Hanlon (0-1), Ballinrobe: D Lynagh; E Sheridan, C Vahey, E Reaney; E Langan, O O’Malley (captain), E Gannon; R Philbin, P Og Horan; L Burke, E O’Brien, K Finnerty; R Jennings, O Hanlon, D Joyce. Good luck to Kevin Quinn and Mayo minors

Our attacker Kevin Quinn has been named as a substitute on the Mayo minor team for today’s Connacht minor football championship clash with Galway in McHale Park, Castlebar, at 6.30pm. We wish Kevin all the best, and hopefully he will make an appearance at some stage during the encounter. He follows in the footsteps of his brother James, who played for Mayo minors in Croke Park a few years ago, including the day Mayo defeated the then All-Ireland champions Tipperary. Kevin is a nephew of current Mayo joint manager Noel Connelly, who captained Mayo in the 1996 and 1997 All-Ireland football finals. He also captained Mayo to win the 2001 National League title, just reward for a man who was one of the leaders of a fine Mayo team for the preceding five years.
