Old Ballinrobe hurling jersey urgently sought

We are looking for an old Ballinrobe hurling jersey urgently, if anyone can oblige. Paddy Geraghty, Carrowreagh, Hollymount, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, was a great supporter of the now-defunct Ballinrobe hurling club and his family would dearly love to drape the jersey on his coffin. The hurling primarily wore blue and white, as I recall it. If you happened to have one, please contact Martin Murphy or Liam Horan. Paddy’s death notice is HERE The hurling club was a hugely significant part of life in Ballinrobe and surrounds back in the 1970s and 1980s and a great bond was formed among those who promoted the game in this predominantly football region. We extend deepest sympathy to his wife Margaret, daughters Geraldine and Denise, and their extended family. May he rest in peace.

Senior league defeat to Burrishoole

By Billy Horan, Club PRO Burrishoole accounted for the Ballinrobe challenge by 5-7 to 2-10 in the second round of Division 1B of the Mayo senior football league at Newport on Sunday. The wind -assisted home side led by 3-4 to 1-3 at the interval, with county player Jason Doherty (2) and Michael Joyce getting the goals. Ballinrobe provided far stiffer opposition in the third quarter and excellent kicking of points by Kevin Quinn helped to reduce the margin to the minimum, 3-5 to 1-10. Burrishoole, however, responded resolutely to the challenge and a brace of goals by Alan Ryder in the 47th and 50th minutes put paid to the Ballinrobe threat. Scorers for Ballinrobe: Joseph Burke 1-1, Kevin Quinn and Darren McDonnell 0-4 each, Simon Walsh 1-0, Peter Butler and David Killeen 0-1 each.
