Best wishes

Best wishes to Aine Keane and Tom McHale, who get married on Friday. Aine has been a keen supporter of the club for many years – a regular at club matches. Tom’s affiliations from a GAA perspective would traditionally lie with Tourmakeady, but his main sporting interest is with the very progressive Partry Athletic FC, who have had big successes in recent times. We wish them every happiness on the day and in the future.

Win for seniors

Well done to the senior team who defeated Breaffy in the Mayo SFL Division 1A in Flanagan Park, Ballinrobe, yesterday, on a scoreline of 1-9 to 1-8. More details on the game anon. Our player Darren McDonnell was removed to hospital by ambulance during the game. This necessitated a long stoppage in the game. We are glad to let it be known that Darren returned home from hospital later yesterday and is recovering well today. We wish him all the best.

Monaghan connection

Ballinrobe has a strong connection with the Monaghan minor team who play Mayo in the ESB All-Ireland semi-final on Sunday next – twins Adam and Andrew Kieran, who play with Monaghan, are grand-nephews of our former President Jim Kierans, who passed away in February of this year. Note they spell their surname without an ‘s’, whereas Jim’s had the ‘s’. We received this tweet from @1jkieran (John Kieran) in the last few days: @ballinrobegaa Jim Kieran, he would have been torn between Mayo & his grand nephews Adam & Andrew with Monaghan Minors Sunday 25th. Of course we hope Adam and Andrew enjoy Croke Park – but not too much. You can read the club’s tribute to Jim HERE
