U12 Ladies Vs Kilmoremoy

By Ann Cannon, PRO Ballinrobe, LGFA Another great evenings football last Wed 15th June from our very talented U12 ladies who played Kilmoremoy (Kilmoremoy is the old name for an area that incorporates Ballina and Ardnaree, on either side of the River Moy). We had a great turnout with 26 players togging out. It was the first time playing for Ballinrobe for four players who had previously been involved with the Gaelic4Girls program. As with all our players they did the club proud. Thanks to Kilmoremoy who travelled a long way and played a great game. Our next U12 match is tomorrow Thurs 23th June 6:30pm Vs Knockmore in the COMMUNITY SCHOOL pitch, meet at the pitch at 6:10pm.  Please support the girls. A reminder to wear gum shields, but no jewellery, earrings or hair slides.  Also bring some form of a top for when not playing in the game as it gets quite windy up at the school pitch.   Ladies U12 training is moving to Mondays and Fridays from 6:30 to 7:30 pm in the Community School pitch. Ladies U10 training is on Wednesdays and Friday’s from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at Flanagan Park. Any player not wearing a gum shield will not be allowed to play in the practice matches at the end of training sessions. For safety reasons all players must be walked into the pitch and collected from there also.

Ballinrobe Ladies Football, future looking bright.

By Ann Cannon, PRO, Ladies Football   On Friday 13th May our U12s played on a beautiful summer’s evening against McHale Rovers (we discovered they are made up of ladies from Crossmolina, Lahardane and Ardagh). We had 23 players line out and as always with this group of young ladies they did the club proud with their skill, determination and great sportsmanship. This game was played at the Community School pitch and a special thanks to Andy Walsh for ensuring the pitch was in perfect condition and also to Terry Duddy and Mary Langan for getting the portable goals moved from Flanagan Park and back again. At the same time on Friday in Flanagan Park our U10’s were training with the young ladies playing football in the Gaelic4Girls Programme.  There were over 40 young ladies in total. Gaelic4Girls is an 8 week programme aimed at increasing participation in Ladies Gaelic Football. Well done to everyone involved, it is great to be in a position to allow these girls the opportunity to try out Gaelic football in a fun and safe environment. On the following Saturday morning we had a great turnout – 16 under 6 girls and 12 under 8 girls. These young ladies train and play matches with the boys and will be playing in go-game leagues shortly. The grounding in the skills of Gaelic football these young girls are getting will ensure their future enjoyment playing the game. Some of our young ladies having a water break during training on Saturday morning May 14th. A big thank you to Declan Burke, Ryders Chemist, Main St ,Ballinrobe who donated First Aid kits for the Ladies U10 team and all other underage teams in the club. As can be seen from the above, the future of ladies football in Ballinrobe is bright and this is due to the hard work of our players, their parents, coaches and ladies committee members. Well done to all. The next U12’s Ladies game is tomorrow evening Tuesday 24th at 7pm in Westport at the Sacred Heart School, Castlebar Road (just up from the Castlecourt hotel). Meet in Ballinrobe at the pitch at 5:50, to be at the pitch in Westport for 6:45pm. As always, gumshields are mandatory.  Also, players cannot wear jewellery or hair slides.

U12: Grading League Group 3 Game 5

By Ann Cannon, PRO, Ladies Football Our U12 ladies played their final grading game against Hollymount on Friday in Flanagan park on a beautiful spring evening. During this league we played five matches three at home and two away to Carnacon and Kiltimagh.  We have had 23 players play and some have played their first Gaelic football games for the club. These young ladies have developed with each game and have always played to the best of their abilities. They are a credit to our club. A neutral spectator who saw these girls play last year commented on their huge improvement since then. This is credit to all the hard work of the players and their coaches and to the parents/guardians who make sure the ladies are at training and games every week. We look forward to our next group of games once the leagues have been decided.  Watch this space!
