We wish Ballinrobe Musical Society every success with their staging of Evita, starting tomorrow night, Saturday (February 9th). As always, we will play our part by supplying some people to help out with the car-parking each night. If you can do your bit, please let Liam Horan know the exact night(s) you can make it – secretary.ballinrobe.mayo@gaa.ie Already a few club members have volunteered. Ideally, we would like to supply at least one club member per night, so please make a special effort to help out. The club will have a social night on Friday, February 22nd. All club members and supporters are invited to attend. The venue will be announced shortly.

Tonight’s meeting of the Executive Committee of Ballinrobe GAA club formally ratified Ray Connelly as our senior team manager for 2013. The Hollymount native – who lined out for Mayo at all levels, including winning a NFL medal in 2001 – was wished every success in the position by chairman Alan Flannery. His backroom team will be finalised shortly. The team have returned to collective training in the past few days.

All boys and girls up the age of eleven should be in bed early Friday night next – because the Skills Academy starts back on Saturday morning. Time is 9.30am, venue is Flanagan Park, and we are expecting a huge crowd as usual. Parents are invited to stay and help out as their children learn the skills of the game in a non-competitive manner. Don’t forget your gumshields. They are compulsory this year.

A very well attended Bord Na nÓg Presentation night was held last Friday in Ballinrobe Community School, writes Bord na nOg secretary Tom Carney. John Sweeney, Chairman, welcomed all the players and their families, congratulated all that participated in 2012 and looked forward to an even more fulfilling 2013. John thanked Kozzys Barbers, Cummins Super Valu, Tom Treacys Pharmacy and JJ Burkes for their continued sponsorship of our underage teams. Senior players Sean Grimes, Mark Walkin, Ronan Macken, David Killeen and James Quinn presented our U8-U12 with their medals and the following individual awards: U14 – Padraig Og Horan Player of Year John Edna Flannelly Most Committed U16 – Patrick Daly Player of Year Conor Burke Most Committed U18 – James Quinn Player of Year Stephen Burke Most Committed Hall of Fame winner for 2012 was presented by Alan Flannery, Club Chairman, to former player, former chairman and current U10 coach John Gilrane. Alan thanked John for his dedication the Club and to training our underage players. A reminder of the 2012 Debut Day was shown and refreshments were served afterwards.
